Words HURT!!! Pledge to Stop the Bullying! $35 Visa Gift Card Give AWAY!!

Words Hurt: Put an End to Bullying Now!!
I've lived in this same neighborhood for 30 years. One of my closest friends lives across the street from me. The hardest thing I've done since I moved here is to sit with her and her family when they buried her son.

Derrick was a sweet kid. He was shy, and never ever had a bad thing to say about anyone.  He was a truly gentle, sweet, soul.  Derrick was shorter than most of his classmates which for some reason brings out the bullies! Let's pick on the shy, short kid. The bullying escalated to a point that Derrick chose suicide as his escape. This shy, sweet 15 year old boy had hanged himself in the family garage. Just writing this makes me cry all over again! We need to teach our kids bullying hurts!!!

This campaign is near and dear to my heart!! I want more people to pledge to help stop the bullying! So I'm adding in a bonus!!  A chance to win $35!  There is a catch. You have to pledge by signing your name. You aren't sending money. You're sending a message that you will talk to you kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, even the kid next door, tell them Bullying Hurts!!! WORDS hurt!! Actions hurt, taunting and name calling all hurt!! Physical violence should never be tolerated by our kids!
If you have helpful hints for other parents I would love to hear about! The more we unite together the safer all of our children will be.  Thank you for helping me spread the word!!

If you want more information about how to help your kids say NO to bullying follow the links in the Pledge screen. This is an amazing site with SO much information.  Know the warning signs to help your children. I hope you'll check it out.

Please sign up!! Thank you so much for you help getting the word out!! Stop the BULLYING!!  Click on the bottom of the blue/yellow screen Pledge Now! Fill in your information and click Take The Pledge.

As of right now if you are using Chrome or Safari you are able to see the Pledge box.  Internet Explorer should be up soon.  Thank you for your patience!!

  3. Today in my preschool class, we talked about bullying. I explained what a bully was, and we practiced assertiveness training ... saying "Stop doing that to me!" It went pretty well, and at least it brought awareness to ongoing situations.

  5. I feel so bad for Derrick's parents. Why are people so mean? If you don't like someone, that's fine..but its not okay to be mean to them. I teach freshman composition (most of the students are right out of high school) and I tell them on the 1st day of class that the most important rule in my classroom is that we treat ourselves, and our classmates with respect and kindness. Its really nice when I pair very different students together and they are kind to one another and learn from each other. I was a pretty introverted kid when I was kid, but no one every picked on me.

I'm so sorry for the loss of that sweet boy.U and his family are in my prayers. I can't imagine what his parents or you are going through. My 15 year old was bullied
her first year and a half in high school because other girls were jealous of her for being pretty?!? and it was so frustrating
and painful to see her self esteem get brought down daily from it. I thank god we got through it.And I will never understand what kids get out of doing this, its so Cruel!RIP Derrick.
